I have a habit of doing things backgrounds - everything from test and homework to purchasing things like cameras. Last year, after saving up for a long time, I bought a Nikon D80 dSLR. Since my mother dumped our ancient Canon Powershot s200 into the wash two years ago in China (miraculously, it still works - batteries and all), it’s come away dreadfully blurry with a huge water stain on the lens. While I love my dSLR and put it through more abuse than I should treat such an expensive piece of equipment, it’s long past time for a decent, less bulky counterpart that I won’t be afraid (or too lazy to) lug around everywhere and catch all those speedy moments I usually pass by. And I figure, it’s good practice.
Enter the new lust of my life: the Nikon Coolpix s52. It comes out in June just in time for the last day of school and depending on where I plan to pre-order it, will cost anywhere from $199(.99)-$249(.99). And because I’m list-happy, here’s a [surprise!] list of reasons why I’m in lust (yes, I am abusing parenthesis today):
- Internal Lens - An quite literally, it’s inside the camera. No extra pieces sticking out - perfect for stealthy photography. Or at least get people to wonder why I’m pointing a box at them.
- Midnight Black - Dark as ebony night. It comes in candy-apple red too. My two favorite colors…how to choose? That and it’s overall design is absolutely awesome. Just look at it! How can someone like Vii resist?
- Awesome Macro - To make up for the fact that I’m too cheap to shell out the money to buy a macro lens for my d80. I have a wishlist of those too, but don’t get me started on that just yet.
- Video Mode - Apparently it can keep going and going and going. dSLRs are fancy, but most of them don’t get to feature moving pictures. Oh, and did I mention it does voice-recording too as a standalone?
- It’s pretty - Again, I emphasize this.

Wow, that seems like a fairly nice camera that will be coming out. I hope that you will be able to get it when you want, and that it will take the pics that you want to take.
I have the Canon Powershot S3 IS, it’s great for macros, and point and shoot… however I wish I had a SLR so that it’s easier to take pics of people… but maybe it’s just that I don’t know how to use mine. ^_^
