2007 | NovemberFifteenth

Anywho, I haven’t had much time to watch movies lately. It’s sad. I think the last one I watched in theaters was Stardust. I loved it, and since its coming out on DVD in a month (I must buy it. A new iPod Classic can wait until I get a job post-finals January), I thought I would take a peak at the movies I’m really looking forward to. Fantasy. Mwah.

Enchanted - November 21, 2007
It’s been forever since Disney released a princess movie, so I’m really looking forward to this, which should be a good mix between the old-school animation and the more modern live-action. God, I can still remember when I begged for the Cinderella VHS when that first came out. I think I still have it. It also happens to be the only ‘original’ movie on this list. ;)

The Golden Compass - December 7, 2007
Based on the first book in Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. No summary should be needed: Armored bears, souls called daemons, evil monkeys. What more can you ask for? Nicole Kidman as a blond Mrs. Coulter is something I can actually picture, though she’s definitely brunette in the novels. Well, it better be good. I reread all the books again when I found out the movie was going to be coming out this year. Too bad Will’s not in the movie…I wonder who they’ll get to play him. Yes, you know where I’m going with this, heh.

Alice (American McGee’s) - July 2008
Alice is a troubled teenager and the savior of Wonderland. After a fire destroys her home and kills her parents, she falls into a catatonic state, and is committed to Rutledge Asylum. She returns to Wonderland, only to find it wickedly deformed. With the aid of the Cheshire Cat, and a wide arsenal of deadly toys, she attempts to put an end to the Queen of Hearts’ dictatorship, and return Wonderland to its former glory. Sarah Michelle Gellar in lead.

Castlevania - Preproduction (2009?)
This movie is inspired by the long-running series of videogames published by Konami, about the adventures of various members of the Belmont family, and their efforts to destroy Dracula, and other vampires, mostly set in 19th century Europe. 2006 marks the 20th anniversary of the series. The game series was, of course, also itself “inspired” by the character of Dracula as created by Bram Stoker. As a powerful vampire named Dracula comes to power, a family of vampire hunters called the Belmont Clan emerges to defeat him and his evil hordes, led by silver-haired, whip-wielding Simon Belmont.

Dark Angel - Preproduction (2009?)
Set in a bleak, ravaged place called the Scrapyard under the floating sky city of Tiphares, this is the story of the relationship between Doc Ido, a cyborg physician, and the damaged robot, Alita, whose 300-year-old head he finds in a scrap pile. At first after Dic Udi rebuilds her body from spare parts, she has amnesia, but when Doc Ido is able to reconstruct more of her body and circuitry, Alita remembers that he is programmed with the “Panzer Kunst,” the most dangerous cyborg fighting style. Together, Alita and Ido set out to discover the secrets of her past, as she takes on work as a bounty hunter for the Factory (the support organization for the city above), eliminating Scrap Iron City’s most dangerous criminals. Based on “Battle Angel Alita,” project of Greg Cameron.
