One day to my trip - I don’t know if I should be worried, anticipating, or happy. Right now it feels like summers coming to an end, but I’m still wallowing in my slothiness. Slothy-ness? Sloth. Oh well. I was clearing out the camera card today and found a few landscape photos I’d taken last December, when we visited the 17-mile Drive yet again. My dad takes everyone and anyone who visits us there. Usually I don’t have to go, but that time was an exception. So I made the best of it and kept from being in as many photos as possible.
Which was why I was behind the camera.
Anyway, I found these three brilliant photographs of the ocean that day that just itch to be showcased. Click below to full-view each.
The image quality isn’t so great because the digital camera we have is rather oldin fact, we bought it 5 years back for our last trip [to China]! I like it, though, because it’s small and it gives nice thumbnails when you view them. For $600, even in 2001 it has to be okay.
The first image, which I call Skylight & Mist is blurry because I stood on a wooden fence to get the shot. What can I say? My hand was shaky. The sunset shot was worth it, though. The second one, It Calls to Me is my favorite of the three. For some reason, it makes me think mermaid. I know, I know, my brain works in strange ways, but thats the vibe I get from it. As for the title, well, has anyone read The Wanderer, by Sharon Creech? You know,
The sea, the sea, the sea. It rolled and rolled and called to me. Come in, it said, come in.
The third one is pretty much a landmark. If you visit the Drive, you’re going to see the Lone Cypress. However, you’ll notice that in this shot, it doesn’t seem to be as alone as some people would like. But what’s up with Commander of Armies? Well, you know in those scenes, when theres a big battle going on in a movie or other, and the hero/bad guy will stand on the edge of a cliff and raise his sword and then the view will pan to show his followers? Replace them with Cypress trees, and there you go.
Oh, I almost forgot about the fourth image - it’s a planned shot. It was a pain to have to hold the flower in shape and get the camera at an angle so as to capture part of me (yes, me in the picture) in the mirror without having the camera in there too. I adjusted the curves quite a bit on this one, and thats why it seems bright. It was actually dark when I took it by lamplight. The corsage was from my sixth grade graduation; the photo was taken in April.
P.S. - For those curious minds that want to know, thlanthwood is my Deviantart username, and that’s why all the watermarks credit that - I post there first. Dont expect much in my gallery, though.
Edit - Added one more called Errant Shores.
Lovely pictures
I’m now “watching” you on DA XP I don’t have much of a gallery there too, but that is because I always put everything of mine on SF.
Have fun on your trip! Take more pictures while you’re there so you can post them all when you’re back ~.o *hugs*
