Before I launch into my little email talk, I’d like to point out the library and the asides to everyone. The asides are below the main post, consisting of a changelog and the actual asides. I will often make updates there when I think that it’s not big enough to warrant the attention of a full post. So when you think I’m not updating; I probably am. I just need to get the comments up for those.
Now on the topic of the library. It hosts all the books I read, am reading, or will read as of July, because that’s when I decided to start over. Each book I finish has a review and a summary; feel free to read them - I devote a rather large chunk of my time writing up things for that. All the currently reading books have a summary and some information up, if you’re curious about that. I just thought I should point that section out to everyone; its on of the main features of the site that no one notices.
Now for the other half of this post.
Recently, I took to actually cleaning out my inbox; I was amazed at how many unanswered emails and contacts fell out of the dusty corners, and the amount of completely unnecessary items in there. I’m the kind of person who can’t reply an email unless it’s screaming in my face. Often, I will read an email, tell myself to reply later, and promptly forget. Labels don’t help - I never check the labels, either. This is where Gmail’s starring system helps. I’m pretty sure that it’s not really meant for how the like of me use it, but it serves nicely.
After reading every email that I need to reply, I star it. Once I reply, I click “archive.” Every not replied sits in the inbox, with a shiny yellow star, reminding me to. My inbox looks a lot less cluttered because every replied and unnecessary email isn’t in there, and I don’t have to mess around with labels! It’s quick and easy, and for the most part, it’s working.
Then of course, the downside to replying emails. You get replies back, which you have to reply again.
But that’s the whole point of emails, isn’t it? Alas, I spent all evening at it. As soon as I sent one batch of old ones off, three more would be sitting in my inbox. Whew. And to think I used to check my email constantly to see if anyone had emailed. Heh. It’s great to get back in touch with old contacts, though, I’ve already reached 3 hostees that had moved up recently whom I lost touch with. I shall be looking forward to being a more active contact to those who are currently being hosted with me.
P.S. I know it’s old, but if you still need a Gmail invite, don’t be afraid to ask.
Haha I’m still the type who checks my email every three seconds and is greeted by an empty inbox. I like getting emails (besides spam) so I would probably love to be you.
You read so much! I used to read for fun, but now I’m too busy to pick up a book unless it is assigned to me.
