2006 | AprilFirst

It should be noted that the following is

  1. NOT an April Fool’s joke. At least not from me. I wouldn’t joke about something this devestating.
  2. VERY IMPORTANT for hostees. If you’re hosted or sponsored by me, please read.

As an April Fool’s trick, someone (The X-Lab Security Team, apparently) thought it would be cool to hack into darkfaerytale and delete all our files. They were able to do this because of a big gaping hole in Codegrrl’s PHPfanbase script that allowed them to get in. I ask that any hostee using a script from Codegrrl to please not use it in the future, as it is now banned by my host as well.

The problem is that the last backup I personally made is months old and my host tells me that they charge a fee to do a total restore, but their last backup was on March 18. It’s $10 for that. I’m probably not going to pay for the backup, since the part of the site I really wanted to save is my new journal site, which was created a bit after their backup. (Yes, I get all the rotten luck, don’t I?) so it probably wouldn’t help.

For the time being, Darkfaerytale has reverted to an older version. It will probably take a while for me to get everything back to where it was before April, since the only thing I thought of backing up even semi-regularly was the databases; I never expected that the files could be deleted. -.-

Anyone with questions or concerns, feel free to email me at darkfaerytale at gmail dot com.
